WHY LEADINGMILE EMBRACES DIVERSITY AND INCLUSIVITY

By our CEO, Martijn Voorhaar

LeadingMile is an internationally orientated boutique consultancy. While we have been at it for a few years, we still consider ourselves a start-up and one with great things ahead of us. We are driven to make the difference for our clients and see that this is best served by not only having the best consultants in the business but also by bringing in solutions that help our clients become market leaders. We invest in building these solutions and this means we also invest in people.

While we lay the foundation towards the future, we are building a team that is high performing and sociable. We believe this is critical as iwill make the difference in everything we do and in the solutions we create. And of course this means we are constantly looking for the best people in the business – or even from outside the business. But what is just as important, if not more important, is that we complement each other. Everyone brings something to the team and without diversity all you get is variations on the same opinion.

Like Steve Jobs famously said (or rather advertised): “Think Different”.

Thinking different is important now, more than ever. As a company we do not only strive to get different opinions, we want people to have a place where they can be their true selves and where respect is fundamental and heartfelt. Having this type of culture empowers our team members to actually think different.

From the moment we engage with candidates we assess not only if they could do the job at hand but also if they will complement the team. We strive to create a place where people are like family, and where we celebrate the fact that diversity makes us strong.

We’re an international business, with people from a great variety of cultures, ethnicity, religion, gender, age and of course abilities. We pride ourselves on this diversity. We recognize the breadth of human experience, and we embrace it.

A lot of people, and in fact a lot of companies, approach diversity and inclusivity as things that are good for the way they are perceived. For LeadingMile, it is much more than that. We believe that people do their best work together in an environment where there are little boundaries. Furthermore, we believwe can best thrive when opening ourselves up for experiences, opinions and perspectives from others.

This means we treat our colleagues with respect, dignity and fairness. This way we don’t only get the best out of each other, we get the best out of ourselves. In no way is anyone perfect, so we need to keep striving to creating an inclusive environment that is always trying to improve. I’m grateful for and proud of the talents and contributions of the people I work with. Everyone at LeadingMile is responsible for our inclusive, winning culture.
